There is a minhag in some places not to tell daughters about the death of
a parent (assuming they are not local) on the grounds that they don't
have to say kaddish.
I have always found this minhag very objectional as know of many
woman who were very hurt because they were informed after the
shloshim and did not sit shiva.
I have spoken with one rav from Bat Yam who is one of the experts on
kevurah and he paskens to tell all the relatives even though they are
not saying kaddish.
Of course the case of a chatan is different and he was not referring to
such a case.
