Pirkei Avot: Explorations in Root Principles

Ask someone to translate the title “Pirkei Avot” and you are likely to be told “Chapters of the Fathers.” But that translation misses the essence of what this treasured section of the Mishnah — and this webinar series —  is all about.

The word “avot” in this context is more accurately translated as “Root Principles” as that is exactly what we get in Pirkei Avot — six chapters of ethical principles that stand at the root of Torah and human life.

For centuries, Mussar teachers and students have plumbed the depths of Pirkei Avot for practical, accessible and universal wisdom for living, and the lessons they drew are as effective for you and me today as they were thousands of years ago, when they were codified. We are blessed to present you with six teachers who will guide us as we explore the six chapters over a period of six months.

Do not miss this opportunity to study the wisdom of our tradition and enliven your Mussar practice.

Pirkei Avot: Chapter 1 – Rabbi Micha Berger

Sunday, Jan. 29, 12 to 1 PM Eastern time

Micha Berger kicks off our free webinar series on Pirkei Avot. We live in this world, reach for heaven, and build a universe of our own in the space between our ears. Each of these three domains give us opportunities to build different kinds of relationships, so they can provide a guiding framework on how to pursue wholeness. We will be looking at the first part of Pirkei Avot Chapter 1 to see just how we can use these truths in our lives.

Micha BergerMicha Berger is a father, grandfather and husband, and sees in those roles much of the expression of his Judaism—and his Mussar work. He was a student of Rav Dovid Lifshitz, the Suvalker Rav zt”l, at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan (a Yeshiva University affiliate). From this contact, Rabbi Berger took away a dream to infuse his Jewish practice with the blend of love, Mussar, and grounding in Jewish thought that marked Rav Dovid’s Torah and life. To that end, he established The AishDas Society. He speaks to audiences of diverse backgrounds, from the unaffiliated to Orthodox yeshiva graduates, on subjects of Jewish thought, Mussar, and the meaning of our prayers.Register for Berger webinar
