Parashas Yisro: It is no good
The Torah only uses the phrase “לֹא־טוֹב / it is not good” twice:
Once when Hashem created Adam before Chavah — “לֹא־ט֛וֹב הֱי֥וֹת הָֽאָדָ֖ם לְבַדּ֑וֹ / It is not good for the Human to be alone”.
And the other is said by Yisro in this week’s parashah, telling Moshe he is trying to do too much himself — “לֹא־טוֹב֙ הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה עֹשֶֽׂה / The thing you are doing is not good”.

We weren’t made to do our life’s work alone. We are to work in partnership and community. To try to do accomplish everything oneself may seem tov but it defies the very point of creation. “וַיַּ֤רְא אֱלֹקִים֙ אֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וְהִנֵּה־טֹ֖וב מְאֹ֑ד – And G-d saw all that He made, and here it was very tov.”
